Speaking to Birmingham City’s official website, Gianfranco Zola has confirmed he will not be forced into changing his defensive approach, despite his side’s search for a victory becoming desperate.

Since Zola replaced Gary Rowett in December, the Blues have only recorded two victories across all competitions and have slipped from the brink of the Play-Offs into a relegation battle.

The Blues sit 18th in the Sky Bet Championship, just five-points outside the relegation zone, but despite their lowly position, Zola insists he wants his side to remain difficult to beat, he said: "At the moment we need to be defensively organised, be difficult to beat and get results that can give a bit of comfort and tranquility to everyone.

"We won't look to change just yet because that is the requirement, it is what we need to do.

"We need the players to be a little more comfortable on the pitch and that is only by getting points, not just by playing good football. So that is what we are working on."

After this week’s break from the Championship, Zola’s side are back in action on Saturday afternoon, when they travel to Ipswich Town, where they will be hopeful of picking up a positive result ahead of a daunting trip to the Amex Stadium to face Brighton and Hove Albion just four days later.
