‘You’ve got to feel for Jos Luhukay’ – Fresh blow for Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday lost 4-2 to Blackburn last weekend to bump them down into 16th in the Championship table, making it six losses in the Owls’ last eight matches.

They host 20th placed Rotherham United at Hillsborough this Saturday and will be hopeful of picking up three points against the fellow strugglers.

But, they will have to do it without one of their star men.

Scans have revealed that Fernando Forestieri tore is hamstring after coming on as a half-time substitute at Ewood Park and will now be out of action for at least six weeks.

It means that Jos Luhukay will have yet another missing member of his first-team squad heading into the busy Christmas period.

Forestieri has had a mixed time of it so far this season, showing his best in flashes but not consistently enough, going in and out of the manager’s side.

With his absence now confirmed, how big a blow is this to Luhukay?

We discuss…

Jacob Potter

It’s a potentially season-defining blow.

Forestieri hasn’t featured much for the Owls this season and many supporters would have hoped that he could fire them back up the table.

This latest injury blow to the forward leaves Luhukay with a lack of goals and creativity in his side, which will be a huge concern for the Sheffield Wednesday fans.

You fear they could slip into relegation trouble without their talisman.

Chris Gallagher

It’s a massive blow.

The Owls are seriously struggling and they lack creativity in the final third.

Forestieri brings that to the team and he is probably the best player at the club when firing, so this is not the news the under-pressure Jos Luhukay needed.

Alfie Burns

It’s another big blow for Sheffield Wednesday and they look set to continue their struggles over the festive period.

There’s too much reliance on the likes of Forestieri, Barry Bannan and Adam Reach, and with the Italian out, the pressure on Bannan and Reach is incredible.

You’ve got to feel for Jos Luhukay, he’s walked into an absolute mess in terms of injuries.
