Time is fast running out if Sunderland are to get all of their transfer business done before the Thursday night deadline.

Manager Jack Ross is keen to bring in at least one more striker after losing star man Josh Maja to Ligue 1 side Bordeaux earlier in the window with Wigan Athletic striker Will Grigg his first-choice replacement.

But the Black Cats have had four bids knocked back by Wigan for the Northern Irish striker now and are ready to move on to alternative options.

And according to Keith Downes of Sky Sports News, they are ready to move on with Gillingham striker Tom Eaves being targeted.

27-year-old Eaves has netted 14 goals in 25 matches this season, a figure that is made all the more impressive given Gillingham are in the midst of a relegation scrap.

So, would he prove to be a good signing for Sunderland or become another flop?

We discuss...

George Harbey

"I really like Eaves and think he could be a great signing for Sunderland.

"He may be very good in the air and maybe renowned for his aerial threat, but he can also get in behind and cause real problems for opposition defences.

"It would be a massive coup to sign him."

Chris Gallagher

"A very good signing.

"He has done extremely well in League One this season and should be able to fit in effortlessly to the Sunderland side.

"As well as that, he would give the team a different option up top. It makes a lot of sense."

Jacob Potter

"This is your perfect Maja replacement.

"He is proven at this level and is a natural goalscorer.

"Eaves should be their top target before the window closes and they’ll need to act fast to secure a deal for him."
