Derby County are in the market for a new goalscoring midfielder or two, having lost both Will Hughes and Tom Ince in the transfer window this summer.

The departure of the pair will be a real set back to boss Gary Rowett, who will hope to lead the Rams to a minimum expectation of a top six finish next season, having inherited the side from Steve McClaren half way through the season with no chance of reaching the playoffs.

Adding goals from the midfield to replace Ince especially will be key, and Rowett will scour the Football League and beyond for potential options.

One player the former Birmingham boss should consider is the EFL Young Player of the Year Ollie Watkins, who impressed so greatly in League Two for Exeter City last semester.

The 21-year-old scored 14 goals and assisted 12 more, and his current ability and further potential would be an exciting addition to the Rams squad.

Both Hughes and Ince impressed at Derby as youngsters, and Watkins has the potential to follow suit.

Winger Kemar Roofe made the jump from League Two to the Championship with Leeds last season and impressed greatly in Yorkshire, and there is no reason Watkins can't do the same.

Young, extremely talented and set to be available for a reasonable fee, bringing Watkins to Pride Park should be a no brainer for Rowett.
