Gillingham dispensed with the services of manager Steve Lovell last week, despite the former striker guiding them to a position of safety in League One.

It's been a disappointing season for the Gills, but on a smaller budget than many of their rivals they have at least secured safety long before the final day of the season.

That wasn't enough to stifle the discontent at board level and Paul Scally has chosen to pull the trigger on Lovell's time in charge.

It hasn't been widely accepted as a popular move. Lovell, despite guiding them to another lowly finish, was a playing legend at the club and had built up a lot of goodwill with the supporters.

Now, they face the possibility of seeing former Peterborough and Crawley boss Steve Evans take over at the club. He's been widely rumoured on social media to be in the frame and has been spotted at the club in recent weeks.

However, if the supporters get their way, Evans won't get anywhere near the dugout. There's been a swell of adverse reaction at the thought of him taking over, as you'll see below.
