Mateusz Klich is one of a handful of Leeds United players that will see their contracts expire at the end of the current campaign, but the midfielder has revealed talks for a new deal are underway.

Leeds’ No.43 told Polish YouTube channel ‘Kick Off – Przemysław Rudzki’ about his potential new agreement at Elland Road after a stellar 12 months for the Poland international.

So, how positive is this news for the Whites?

We discuss…

Louie Chandler

"It is excellent news.

"With all the excitement and worry surrounding Kalvin Phillips and his new deal, it would have perhaps been easy to overlook others who are nearing the ends of their deals.

"So opting to renew the contract of somebody who was so important to the club last season can only be great news.

"Klich is a crucial source of goals and assists in midfield, taking pressure off Pablo Hernandez, so it would have been foolish not to give him a new deal."

Alfie Burns

“Getting Klich signed up beyond the end of this season would be excellent news for the club, and it is thoroughly deserved after an outstanding year of football.

“Klich looked very much the Elland Road flop last summer, but 10 goals and nine assists last season have seen him become one of the Championship’s most influential goalscoring midfielders.

“For that reason, Leeds simply have to get him tied down to a new contract. And, when you consider he’s started every Championship fixture under Marcelo Bielsa, he’s a vital cog in the Argentine’s machine.

“You’d encourage Radrizzani to get this wrapped up ASAP.”

Toby Wilding

"I think this will be a welcome bit of news for Leeds.

"Following a slow start to his Leeds career, Klich played a key role in the club's push for promotion last season, featuring in every league and play-off game for Marcelo Bielsa's side throughout the course of the campaign.

"Having again been a regular feature at the start of this year, it looks as though Klich could have a big part to play in the long term plans of those at Elland Road, so tying him to a new deal certainly looks to be a smart move.

"With Kalvin Phillips also apparently close to a new deal, it looks as though Leeds are taking an opportunity here to secure some key players long term to the club, which will only add to the sense of optimism around the club following their promising start to the campaign."
