After the heartbreak of their last minute defeat in the League One play-off final Sunderland will be eager to ensure they can go one better this time around.

One of the Black Cats biggest problems throughout last season was their inability to kill off matches so it is not a big surprise to see who they have been most recently linked with.

On Monday morning it was reported by the Northern Echo that Jack Ross was looking to add Doncaster striker John Marquis to their striking ranks.

He scored 26 goals last season so it is no surprise to see him being linked with moves away already.

But would he be a good signing for Sunderland?

We discuss...

Jacob Potter

"This would be a brilliant signing.

"Sunderland lacked cutting edge in front of goal last season, and they'd certainly benefit from adding to their options up-front.

"Marquis is a proven goalscorer at League One level and knows where the back of the net is after a successful season with Doncaster.

"With him in their side, I'd fancy Sunderland's chances of winning promotion back into the Championship."

Toby Wilding

"This would be a good signing for Sunderland.

"The Black Cats lacked a goalscorer for much of last season, and it was that that arguably cost them an immediate return to the Championship.

"Bringing in a proven League One goalscorer like Marquis would surely solve that problem, and provide a big confidence boost as they head into next season as one of the favourites for promotion once again."

Louie Chandler

"I think this makes sense, but for the right price.

"After spending £4million on Will Grigg in the summer it is unlikely that Sunderland will be flushed with cash to spend this summer so they may need to be shrewd.

"But by the sounds of it Marquis may well be interested in the move North so I definitely think it is well worth pursuing.

"If they get him in you would have to fancy them for promotion."
