Suffering heartbreak at Wembley in the Championship play-off final, expectations will naturally be high for next season at Huddersfield Town, and rightly so. 

The Terriers finished the 46-game campaign in third place, edging out Luton Town in the semi-final of the play-offs before being edged out themselves by Forest.

Carlos Corberan will be hoping that he can keep the core of the squad together for next season, all whilst bolstering different areas of the pitch with intelligent recruitment.

Asked if the Terriers could mount another serious promotion push next season, pundit Carlton Palmer told FLW: "If they can retain the players and retain that spirit that they've got, I'm sure they can be in the same position as they're in.

"I mean, unfortunately, the teams that go down, you would expect them to be the strongest teams in the championship next season.

I expect Steve Bruce with the West Brom, he is already moving in the transfer market, and he knows what he's doing Steve in this league. So you expect West Brom to be there or thereabouts.

"So yeah, if you can keep the players and keep the squad together and add to the squad, you would expect them to be in and around the top four or five again next season."

The verdict 

The Terriers defied expectations last season to finish inside the play-offs, with many predicting that their slump during the second half of the 2020/21 season could leak into the start of the new season. 

However, Carlos Corberan and Co. enjoyed an excellent season, with the Terriers boss proving to be one of the best managers in the division. 

Possessing some excellent, youthful talents, combined with some experienced heads, Corberan certainly found the winning formula during the 21/22 season. 

It is now about regrouping and looking to keep hold of their integral first-teamers, whilst looking into the positions that will need bolstering.
