‘You spent lots and we spent wisely’ – Wolves fans hit back at Villa owner after he comments on their transfer policy

Aston Villa owner Tony Xia has spoken out on Wolves’ transfer policy and believes the influence of Jorge Mendes is largely responsible for the Black Country club’s success.

The super-agent is very well connected with Fosun International, the company that own Wolves, and has played a significant part in bringing the likes of Ruben Neves, Willy Boly and Diogo Jota to the West Midlands.

And, when asked about how Wolves are avoiding FFP sanctions, Xia responded by saying it was the Mendes connection that allowed the Championship leaders to bring in quality players on loan.

Whilst the agent is undoubtedly a major factor in the surprising deals that Wolves have concluded over the past season, Nuno Espirito Santo has still bought in the likes of Ryan Bennett and John Ruddy on free transfers and Barry Douglas for £1m.

Given Aston Villa’s spending under Xia many fans were surprised to see the owner comment on another club’s transfer policy. And, the Wolves supporters were quick to remind him of that when replying to his tweet…
