Sunderland boss Phil Parkinson has named his starting XI for the Carabao Cup Round of 16 clash against Oxford United, which has frustrated many Black Cats fans.

Parkinson has made a number of changes from the side who were beaten by 1-0 Shrewsbury Town on Saturday.

Jon McLaughlin starts in goal in the place of Lee Burge, who has started all three of the Black Cats' previous Carabao Cup games.

It appears the North East club will set up with three centre-backs as Jordan Willis, Joel Lynch, and Tom Flanagan all start.

Denver Hume and Conor McLaughlin look set to start at wing-back, with a midfield three of George Dobson, Max Power, and Grant Leadbitter.

Marc McNulty starts in place of Will Grigg up front alongside Aiden McGeady.

There are a number of young players named on the bench, including Anthony Patterson, Benji Kimpioka, Brandon Taylor and Lee Connelly.

Sunderland's more defensive line-up is perhaps unsurprising considering the threat that Oxford have shown moving forward this season.

Karl Robinson's side have scored 32 times in League One this season and put four past Premier League side West Ham United in the last round of the Carabao Cup.

The line up does not appear to have gone down well with many Sunderland fans, who took to Twitter to express their concern.
