Colchester United secured a famous a penalty shoot-out victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the third round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.

The League Two side frustrated last season's semi-finalists throughout the 90 minutes to ensure the match ended goalless, and they then clinched a 4-3 victory in the shoot-out with Christian Eriksen and Lucas Moura missing their penalties.

It means that Colchester, who are the lowest-ranked side left in the competition, will progress to the fourth round while Spurs extended their winless run to three matches after also drawing to Olympiacos and losing to Leicester in the last six days.

Colchester were understandably delighted to seal the victory, and they were keen to point out on Twitter that the result had seen them sink last season's Champions League finalists:
