Plymouth Argyle have confirmed the appointment of Bury's Ryan Lowe as their new manager following the club's relegation to League Two.

Lowe guided Bury to promotion during his first full season in management, but he has now been pinpointed as Derek Adams' replacement at the Pilgrims amid financial trouble at Bury.

The Shakers finished second in League Two to achieve automatic promotion, but Lowe will not lead them into the third tier as he has opted for increased job security in the south-west.

Adams was sacked by Plymouth in the week leading up to the final game of last season, but this did not prevent Argyle from slipping back into the fourth tier.

Lowe shared a goodbye message to the Bury supporters via his Twitter account on Wednesday afternoon:

Plenty of Bury fans were quick to respond to this statement by expressing their sadness, but also their appreciation of Lowe's achievements at Gigg Lane. Others also emphasised that they do not blame him for making the tough decision.
