Portsmouth just missed out on a play-off spot in a campaign which has been wrecked by injuries.

Three consecutive losses in a five game winless run have condemned Pompey to another season in League One, but they can point to injuries having a significant effect on their season due to the sheer amount of first-team players that were out.

There is still one league game against Peterborough who are just above them in the table, but the highest they can finish is eighth.

Jackett will already be focusing on next season as they aim to improve on an impressive first season back in League One after being promoted as League Two champions.

Here are three players they could bring in...

O'Keefe is on loan at the club from Cardiff City, and has made 20 league appearances this season. Signing him permanently would improve the depth of the squad without changing little because he is used to that environment and has built up an understanding with the rest of the squad.

It wouldn't be the most exciting signing, but it would be an intelligent one. He is an experienced figure in a key area which will be important if Jackett opts to bring in more loan players in the summer with some of them being youngsters.

Grimes is a player that they could potentially bring in on loan because he has been at Northampton this season. His parent club is Swansea, but they don't need him due to the current options they currently have in midfield.

He has three goals and ten assists from multiple roles, so he could be fitted in wherever Jackett needs him. This is useful during key parts of the season when injuries and suspensions start to pile up with gaps in the squad needing to be filled.

Kennedy is another player on loan at Pompey from Cardiff City. The Bluebirds are unlikely to need him if they achieve promotion which seems highly likely, so they are unlikely to extend his contract which runs out at the end of this season, according to TransferMarkt.

He has three goals and three assists from wide positions, so he has certainly contributed although he does need to increase his output. In Brett Pitman, Pompey have a clinical striker, so they just need to ensure he gets consistent chances and Kennedy can be a key part of that.

Signing him as a free agent would be a smart move because he knows the team well and can continue to develop his understanding with the forward players such as Pitman. He is only 23-years-old as well, so he is a potential long-term project.
