There have been several managerial sackings across the Championship already during the early stages of the latest campaign.

Hull City have parted company with Shota Arveladze, Chris Wilder has been dismissed at Middlesbrough and Watford have got rid of Rob Edwards, and that is all within the last 10 days.

One manager who is seemingly under increasing pressure is West Brom chief Steve Bruce, with his Albion side currently at the wrong end of the division.

Sharing his thoughts on Bruce, and his position at the helm of the Midlands club, Carlton Palmer told Football League World: "The tide's turned for Steve. It's going to be very difficult for him now, I would assume to hold on to his job.

"They've only had three defeats, but they've only got one win in 11 games. I know they've drawn seven games, but they're eight points away from a play-off place.

"And, as much as I love Steve Bruce and I think he's a fantastic bloke, this is not personally what I want to see happen, but in football, you don't get that time."

The verdict

It is a strange one at The Hawthorns because as Palmer says here, they have only lost three of their 11 games thus far, with their issue being converting draws to wins.

The displays haven't been bad for the most part too, with the Baggies managing to dominate some of their games, and that can be backed up by their xG performance.

Tonight's clash away at Preston North End could quite easily be the final nail in Bruce's coffin as Albion boss.

It remains to be seen if the sheer number of sackings around the Championship could influence the West Brom hierarchy, and whether or not they could be tempted by any of the managers that are currently without work.
