Luton Town have confirmed the signing of Cauley Woodrow from Barnsley.

The forward is returning to the club that he departed on a permanent basis in 2019.

Here we ask our FLW writers their verdict on if the 27-year old will earn his way straight into Nathan Jones’ starting lineup this season…

Besides the romance of Cauley Woodrow's return to Kenilworth Road, it is a mightily impressive addition.

Possessing too much ability to justify playing his football in League One again, a Championship move is certainly deserved.

An intelligent and determined forward, there is every chance he could strike up an excellent working relationship with Elijah Adebayo, whilst there is also scope for the forward to be deployed as a number 10.

Forming an excellent relationship with Daryl Dike during the 2020/21 season, there is every chance that can be replicated next to Luton's current talisman.

He also has a gritty side to his game that would certainly come in handy for a Luton side who are aggressive off the ball.

You do get the feeling that Woodrow will be a regular feature in Luton's starting XI next season.

Given he still had a year remaining on his Barnsley contract, and the fact that Hatters boss Nathan Jones has already referred to the striker as a "marquee signing", you get the impression Luton will have had to invest a considerable amount to get this deal done.

They will therefore want to get a return on their investment here, and the best way to that will obviously be to play him in the hope he gets the goals that help the club build on their top six finish last season.

Woodrow has already shown he has the ability to do that in the Championship, so there should be little concern about starting him here, and the prospect of seeing him link up with the likes of Elijah Adebayo and Harry Cornick at Kenilworth Road will surely be exciting for Hatters fans.

Whereas Woodrow clearly possesses the ability to cause all kinds of issues for opposition defences in the Championship, there is no guarantee that he will immediately force his way into Luton's starting eleven.

Set to face competition from Elijah Adebayo and Harry Cornick, the forward will need to prove his worth to Nathan Jones in training in order to have a chance of overtaking this duo in the pecking order at Kenilworth Road.

Whereas Adebayo and Cornick scored a combined total of 30 goals for Luton last season, Woodrow only managed to find the back of the net on four occasions.

Set to play alongside better players than he did during the previous term, it would be somewhat of a shock if Woodrow doesn't better this total in the first half of the upcoming campaign.
