Nottingham Forest are firmly in the hunt for promotion this season.

Sabri Lamouchi's side currently occupy fifth spot in the Championship table with eight games to go, and they will be keen to cement their play-off spot.

One player who has been a fundamental cog in the Reds' side this season has been forward Lewis Grabban.

The former AFC Bournemouth forward has notched 17 goals for Forest in the league, and his form in front of the goal has been one of the main reasons why the club find themselves in the table where they do.

If Forest did get promotion this season then, would Grabban be good enough to lead the line in the top-flight? Or do you think an upgrade would be required?

Absolutely. They need to sign another striker regardless of how prolific Grabban has been this term.

Since the days of Britt Assombalonga and Robbie Earnshaw, Forest have been lacking that prolific goalscorer in their attacking armoury, but Grabban has been sensational since arriving from AFC Bournemouth, and scoring 34 goals across two seasons is no mean feat.

But the experienced striker is now approaching the age of 33, so if Forest did make a long-awaited return to the Premier League, then Lamouchi would need to bring in another option to provide real competition for Grabban.

I don't think Tyler Walker is anywhere near ready for Premier League football, and Nuno da Costa has failed to make an impact since moving to the City Ground due to injury, so going into next season potentially in the top-flight with Grabban as their main striker would be a risk.

As important as Grabban is to the way that Sabri Lamouchi sets his side up, you’ve got to imagine that Forest are going to need someone with a little bit more top-flight pedigree to lead the line for them if they win promotion.

Over the course of Grabban’s career, he hasn’t ever really set the Premier League alight, which is why his last few years have been served at the top end of the Championship.

He’s in the mould of someone like Patrick Bamford, who is very useful in the Championship and has the ability to play in the Premier League, but isn’t going to be you 15+ goalscorer in the top-flight of English football.

It’d be harsh to completely oust Grabban should he fire Forest to promotion, but it would also be unfair to pin Forest’s hopes of survival on him.

You can’t imagine many Forest fans would disagree.

I think they'd definitely need an upgrade on Grabban.

The forward has shown this season and in the past that he's a clinical striker in front of goal in the Championship.

However, I just don't think he'd be the answer for Nottingham Forest if they were playing their football in the Premier League.

It can be an unforgiving league in the top-flight, and as a striker, you need to be at the top of your game consistently week in, week out.

Teemu Pukki is a good example of a player that has coped well in adjusting to the step up, and it wouldn't surprise me if the Reds were to take a look at the Norwich striker if the Canaries were relegated this season.

But on the whole, Forest would definitely need to bolster their attacking options next season if they were to be promoted into the Premier League.
