Sheffield Wednesday have endured a testing start to the Sky Bet Championship season, with Carlos Carvalhal’s side failing to make the impact they might have hoped.

The Owls have 16 points from their opening 11 fixtures, which left them 12th heading into October’s international break.

Carvalhal has had to deal with a number of key injuries during the opening few months, with Glenn Loovens, Sam Hutchinson and Fernando Forestieri all missing for large parts.

Loovens and Hutchinson are edging closer to a return, but Forestieri is expected to be out of action until December.

However, the 27-year-old has delivered a positive update on his Twitter account, confirming that he is starting work in the gym, as he recovers from surgery on his knee.

Wednesday’s supporters were delighted by Forestieri’s update, with the Italian not featuring for the Owls since mid-August’s defeat to Bolton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup.
