The city council's planning chiefs will make the decision on the planned 8,000 seater stadium named 'York Community Stadium', and York managing director Sophie McGill has urged fans to back the plans

"We've been waiting for a long time for this" McGill said to Sky Sports, before adding, "Without a new stadium, York City Football Club will not exist in its current form."

If the project is delayed, fears are that the club could be expelled from the Football League for sub-standard facilities, or the club could even become up for sale. "

We could be forced to sell Bootham Crescent due to the expiry of the loan agreement and will be left homeless, which will lead to the closure of the club"

She later added; "The Community Stadium provides a sustainable future for the club with the increased commercial opportunities it offers".

McGill has urged that fans to turn up to the City of York Council "in their droves", showing what this application would mean if approved.

The plans for the new stadium will not only benefit the football club, but with an adjoined leisure facility, including a gym, swimming pool, sports hall and dance studio, it will benefit the local community and create a number of job opportunities.

It's understood that York City will share the stadium with York Knights of the Rugby League, with the development process looking likely to create up to 200 jobs.

The Minstermen's tenure at their current stadium, Bootham Crescent, has been their home since 1932, and is likely to be sold for housing development.
