Sky Bet League Two club York City are the latest to begin the search for a new manager after it was announced via the York Press, that they have parted company with Russ Wilcox.
The sacking comes in the aftermath of Saturday’s abysmal 3-1 home defeat to AFC Wimbledon at Bootham Crescent which leaves the Minstermen languishing in 21st position in League Two.
Wilcox was in the role for just over a year having taken the reigns from Nigel Worthington last season but a run of nine games without a win sealed the ex-Scunthorpe boss’ fate.
York City legend Richard Cresswell has taken the reigns on a temporary basis and will be assisted by Champions League winner Jonathan Greening, who was in the role of youth team manager.
It remains to be seen which direction the club will take next and they will probably seek to appoint someone with slightly more experience than what Wilcox possessed.
