Sheffield Wednesday manager Jos Luhukay has today revealed that long-term injury absentee Sam Winnall has suffered yet another injury setback, report the club's official Twitter account

The striker was playing in an under-23's match on Saturday when he injured his hamstring and will now face another spell on the sidelines after coming so close to returning to full fitness.

"Sam Winnall had a problem with his hamstring during the Under-23s’ game on Saturday and is now a few weeks away," Luhukay told his press conference.

Winnall has been missing since picking up an injury whilst on loan with Derby County last season in the middle of February.

He signed for the Owls from Barnsley in January 2017 for around £500,000 but has only managed to make 18 appearances, scoring four goals.

Luhukay takes his side to Loftus Road on Tuesday night to face Queens Park Rangers and will be hopeful of getting back to winning ways.

A 2-1 loss to Middlesbrough on Friday night stuttered what was a run of one loss in nine matches and had seen them rise into the playoff spots.

The verdict

Just when everything seems to be going right for the Owls.

They have had some horrific luck with injuries recently and it makes you wonder whether enough has been done at the club to prevent their players from getting hurt.

Either way, it is a big blow to both the club and Winnall of course.
