Coventry City fans were sent into a frenzy on Twitter last night as Andy Turner, of the Coventry Telegraph, revealed that experienced striker Yakubu was set to undergo a fitness assessment on Monday ahead of a possible short term deal with the Sky Blues.

The Nigerian striker has over 50 caps for his country and has netted 95 goals in the Premier League during an illustrious career.

Now 34-years-old, Yakubu is looking for a route back into football and Coventry boss Russell Slade will run the rule over him today to see whether he is fit enough to be handed a contract.

Personally, as a Coventry City fan, I am not sure whether to feel apprehensive or hopeful, but a striker is definitely needed desperately.

Coventry fans took to Twitter to voice their opinions on Yakubu with a mixture of excitement, disbelief and disappointment.
