Ainsworth hopes to bring in two more players

Last season’s League Two play-off runners-up have already brought in striker Garry Thompson, defenders Ryan Sellars and Anthony Stewart and also midfielders Jason Banton and Danny Rowe to Adams Park so far this summer.

However, the Chairboys manager feels he is a few players short, with Peter Murphy, Steven Craig and Matt McClure having departed the club, and loan stars Sam Saunders, Nico Yennaris and Alfie Mawson returning to their parent club, or have moved elsewhere.

Ainsworth told GetBucks, “We’re still a couple short. I would like a squad of 17 to 18, but finances will dictate. One or two more will be in the squad to start the season though.

“The loans market will be huge for us again. We’re still looking, and we will have some trialists coming in as well.”

Wycombe begin their season at home to York City on August 8 followed by a visit from Championship side Fulham in the Capital One Cup three days later.
