The Bucks Free Press has reported that Wycombe manager Gareth Ainsworth will look at five or six triallists in pre-season games, but has denied Twitter speculation that Chelsea starlet Nortei Nortey is one of them.

Apparently adding fuel to the fire, the eighteen year old defender tweeted a picture of him in a training session with Wycombe defender Aaron Pierre. This has lead fans to speculate that he will be signing for the Bucks club in the near future.

Ainsworth for his part has said that such speculation is way off and there is no offer to sign Nortey.

The Blues boss said: “He’s friends with a couple of our players and that’s about as far as we’ve got on that. Twitter can be the bane of my life. If we signed every player we were linked with on Twitter we’d have a huge squad next season. Rumours come and go. We’ve been linked with so many players its crazy, but I know the truth and that’s all that matters.”

Considered a bright prospect at Chelsea Nortey was progressing well until a series of career threatening knee injuries severely hampered him.

He was released by Chelsea and has been playing for Maidenhead United since February.

The manager has previously said that most of his squad will be complete by the time pre-season training starts, however he did admit that some triallists will be given time to impress.

“It wouldn’t be pre-season without triallists. I think we’ve got five or six coming in and we’ll have a look. There’s always a rough diamond or a surprise package somewhere so I think we’d be stupid not to look into that.” He said.

He went on to say: “There could be a couple of surprises late in pre-season. Barring one or two, the majority will be here on day one ready to go.”
