Leeds United's managing director Angus Kinnear has announced that he has plans to expand Elland Road into a 50,000 seater in the coming years.

The key Leeds figure was speaking (quotes sourced from Leeds Live) in a civic reception to celebrate the club's 100th birthday on Thursday.

"Part of it is around the stadium and taking our stadium up to 50,000 and turning it into a true ground which can compete with other stadiums in the Premier League and in Europe."

Leeds will be targeting a long-awaited promotion back into the Premier League, and Kinnear stated that any potential plans to extend the capacity at Elland Road will be dependant on whether they are playing in the top-flight or not in the near future.

It's set to be an interesting season ahead for Marcelo Bielsa's side, and they'll be hoping to use their play-off pain from last year's campaign as motivation to return to the Premier League this term.

It's safe to say that plenty of Leeds supporters were pleased to hear of this latest announcement.
