Dean Smith will look to hold one-to-one talks with striker Scott Hogan in order to get him back to his free scoring best, according to reports.

The striker left Smith's Brentford for Villa, but never recaptured his electric form that saw him command a big fee just eighteen months ago.

The 26-year old hit 21 goals in just 36 games for the Bees, but managed just 10 in 54 under Steve Bruce. He's battled fitness issues, but still has only shown glimpses of the deadly forward he was once.

New manager Smith is hoping to get the best out of his entire squad, including those who struggled under Bruce. Some Villa fans have been responding on Twitter, claiming it was Bruce at fault, not Hogan. They've questioned the former manager's style of play and his attitude towards the player.

There's the question of his injury record raised too and one poster thinks perhaps Smith has problem further back up the pitch, rather than up top. Villa are the fourth highest scorers in the division, but that woeful defence has cost them dearly.

Here's a mixture of responses from Twitter this morning.
