Sheffield Wednesday reportedly paid the wages and back pay owed to their squad yesterday but it appears some departed players have not been reimbursed for missing payments, which has caused a stir among the Hillsborough faithful.
2021 has been a difficult year for Wednesday, who were relegated to League One in May before it was revealed that players had not received their wages in full or on time in months.
That situation has left the Owls under a transfer embargo and had some players reportedly considering walking away from the club.
According to journalist Alan Nixon, the Yorkshire club have paid the wages and back pay they owed their squad yesterday.
It is said that has stopped some players from looking to leave on a free transfer.
Additionally, Nixon has indicated that some departed players have not been reimbursed for missing payments.
A significant chunk of Moore’s senior squad, including high earners such as Jordan Rhodes, Keiren Westwood, and Adam Reach (Salary Sport), left the club this summer at the end of their contracts.
What was the score the last time Sheffield Wednesday played each of these 25 teams?
This update from Nixon has caused a stir among the Hillsborough faithful, with many fans taking to Twitter to voice their thoughts…
Sympathy goes a certain way for me Alan, these contracts for players should have been honoured. Although I would argue if the likes of Jordan Rhodes, Kadeem Harris really honoured there side of the deal week in week out

This leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. The players owed money were by and large absolute wasters. However a contract is a contract and should be honoured. Not only does it reflect badly on our idiot owner, but it makes the club look bad. That I don’t like.

Chansiri has struggled to pay wages during the middle of a pandemic and he’s getting slated for it. We’ve had no income for over 12months and some of these players are on unsustainable wages as it was anyways. He’s paid a hefty price for trying to match the big boys

Said before hes punishing them for relegation! I think Chansiri will go as long as he can before lawyers get involved

They’ve freed themselves from the worse run football club in the country. I’m sure sacrificing the wages was worth it

Threw my cap over that one knew that would happen. It won’t get us embargo free. He will pay others at the 11 o’clock transfer deadline day. https://t.co/6FouKtZSE4

Rhodes, Harris, Obubajo and Reach can do one. If they had shown anything to deserve the wages they were on, we would still be a Championship club. https://t.co/u6dU64Z1vP
