Birmingham City have announced that Craig Gardner will become the club’s Technical Director with immediate effect.
Gardner will oversee the Club’s football strategy, focusing on recruitment, squad development and performance, whilst also working closely with manager Lee Bowyer.
Speaking in an interview with the club’s official website, Gardner looked ahead to the future in his new role, and revealed that changes will be made behind-the-scenes.
“We have needed a period of stability for some time now and I’m looking forward to working closely with the Board to put plans in place to make sure we achieve that.
“This is about steadily building, growing as a Club both on and off the pitch, increasing standards and improving in all departments.
“It’s not going to happen overnight but if we can lay the foundations over the coming months and years, then we’ll hopefully see the impact further down the line.
“We’ll be making a number of changes behind-the-scenes to restructure the Club.”
Plenty of Birmingham City supporters took to social media to issue their thoughts on Gardner’s new role within the club.
Take a look at the best of the reaction from Twitter below….
Jokes aside this is actually a good move. Will be a good link between the board and the coaching/playing staff which was clearly missing before.

Wow 😯 I guess it’s great for Bowyer and Gardner to have such a relationship from their playing days at the club and as his assistant when he first joined. That’s a huge plus for us, it’s a big job though so I hope the board provide the time required for him and Bowyer #bcfc

Finally feels like things are changing for the good at blues, but we need to give both GG and LB time, it might not work out straight away on the pitch but I’m sure with all the changes off the pitch to stabilise the club it’s gonna be a good future for us.

Fantastic appointment. At last the ownership (whoever it is) of this club have given trust to one of our own. He and Lee can now build together. Craig has got the huge task of keeping the “owners” out of all football related matters.

Finally feels like there is some positivity around the club. Hopefully things are on the up.
