Sheffield Wednesday really need to add in the January window and there's a real case that it is going forwards where they need to add numbers and quality.

The men from Hillsborough have been okay defensively this year but going forward they are far too blunt for a side that, on paper, should be in that top six mix for this season.

Indeed, the quality that Jordan Rhodes and Gary Hooper have is up there with the best in the league but something is missing from their game at the moment and the Owls need to find a solution.

The options off of the bench aren't exactly inspiring, though, and so Carlos Carvalhal needs to dip into the market and get some young hungry players into his side.

With that in mind, we think the pacey Ainsley Maitland-Niles from Arsenal would be a pretty big hit with the Owls with him certainly potentially good enough for the top flight.

He's one of those players that could make it in the Premier League if he gets on the right progression path and it seems as though playing elsewhere regularly is now key.

For sure, then, Wednesday could do with bringing him in as serious competition for Ross Wallace. Wednesday's lack of strength in depth is perhaps holding them back as the players are perhaps not pushing themselves as hard as they should.

Carvalhal should bring in fresh young talent to sort that, then, and we think Maitlaind-Niles would be a superb addition going forward.
