Hull City fell to another defeat on Wednesday night as they were beaten and outperformed by a resurgent Barnsley side, plundering them into the relegation battle even further.

The mood around the KCOM Stadium has definitely shifted since the turn of the New Year with a lot more negativity surrounding the club as performances take a massive dip towards the run-in, seeing the Tigers right amongst the rest of the relegation battlers.

A disappointing defeat to Preston North End at the weekend saw the pressure piling up on manager Grant McCann to start delivering results before the club gets sucked into the fight for survival. A home clash against Gerhard Struber’s Barnsley followed at the worst possible time as the Tykes travelled to East Yorkshire on the back of two impressive wins and clean sheets over Fulham and Middlesbrough.

Cauley Woodrow settled matters just before half-time, capitalising on a George Long error in the goalmouth to prod home from close range, while the hosts barely created anything except for one Josh Magennis effort.

In the fallout to the defeat, Hull’s official twitter account shared the ‘highlights’ of the game from their persuasion, with a sarcastic caption to go with it:

There wasn’t much to shout about from the home side’s perspective as they now sit just four points above the relegation zone. Fans weren’t best pleased to see the club share the talking points from a poor home performance...
