Middlesbrough have confirmed that Tony Pulis' contract will not be renewed following the expiration of his contract this season.

Boro struggled in the second-half of the season, as a poor run of results meant they slipped out of the play-off places at a crucial stage of this year’s league campaign.

The Middlesbrough fan base were slowly starting to turn against the former Stoke boss, and his dismissal has been met with a positive reaction.

Jonathan Woodgate has emerged as the favourite to succeed Pulis at The Riverside (according to the Daily Mail), with the former Boro defender currently working as a first-team coach at Boro.

It would certainly be an interesting move by the club, with Woodgate not having any managerial experience under his belt as of yet.

But would appointing Woodgate as Pulis’ successor be a wise move by Middlesbrough?

We discuss….

Jacob Potter:

"He wouldn't be my first choice in my opinion.

"I think that Middlesbrough need to go with someone with more proven experience of getting teams out of the Championship, which is exactly what they need to do next season.

"Woodgate would be a gamble, but you never know, it could pay off in the long run."

George Brooks:

"Perhaps.

"Woodgate is a first-team coach at the Riverside and is somebody who already knows the club very well.

"He has obviously impressed the club with his skills as a coach, but he has no experience of being a manager.

"The Championship is an unforgiving league, so perhaps Boro should go for someone with a bit more experience."

Toby Wilding:

"There are a few who will be more familiar with the club than Woodgate, but this would be his first job in management and promotion to the Premier League would be a big ask to start with.

"Then again, Frank Lampard hasn't coped too badly with that.

"It's one to keep an eye on."
