Charlton Athletic's future has been plunged into uncertainty after majority shareholder Tahnoon Nimer announced he would be pulling out from his backing of the club.

Nimer took on the position of majority shareholder following the completion of East Street Investments' takeover, but the businessman has now criticised club chairman Matt Southall before withdrawing his financial backing from the Addicks.

Southall released an initial statement claiming Nimer had not contributed "a single penny of the promised funds" since his involvement with the club, while a later statement then claimed Charlton had accepted Nimer's resignation from the board.

However, Nimer then shared a message of his own which claimed he had not resigned from his role and would instead seek the removal of Southall as chairman, with this very public dispute having now caused confusion over the situation at present.

Southall's initial statement suggested Nimer had not agreed with the decision to hand a new contract to manager Lee Bowyer back in January, with the Addicks boss having committed his future to the club soon after the takeover was completed.

One Charlton supporter has now taken to the Charlton Athletic FC(The unofficial & UnCensored Charlton Fans Group) Facebook page to ask whether Bowyer may now leave his position amid the growing uncertainty at boardroom level.

Plenty of Charlton supporters responded to this suggestion by claiming that Bowyer would surely not depart after just signing a new deal, but others argued the Addicks boss will surely be considering his position given the club's current state.

Here are some of the responses...

Dave Warren: Would you stay?

Dave Edwards: Think he'll see season out then review his options.

Ben Hines: Depends if they get a new chairman in I think. Bowyer may walk after the treatment of Parkes today.

Mark Smith: If he has a brain, sit back and wait and see what happens.

Mark Rogers: 4 year contact, he won’t walk anywhere.

Lj Fowler: Not yet. Everyone is waiting to see what happens.
