Derby County will once again head into the new Championship season as one of the favourites for promotion to the Premier League.
The Rams have recorded five successive top ten finishes in the second tier but just haven’t quite done enough to get over the line, yet new boss Gary Rowett will be hoping that he can be the man to finally lead the East Midlands outfit back to the top-flight.
The former Birmingham and Burton boss took over at the iPro Stadium back in March following the departure of Steve McClaren, and led the side to four wins from nine league games to secure ninth place in the table, albeit a hefty 13 points adrift of the play-off places.
Nonetheless, expectations will be high around the club that they can bridge that gap and thus sustain a promotion bid next season, although it’s clear that signings are needed over the summer to aid that quest.
And with the likes of Curtis Davies and Tom Huddlestone already through the door, they’ve certainly made a good start, and another man who could be joining them is Arsenal midfielder Jon Toral.
The 22-year-old Spaniard has never made a senior appearance for the Gunners and instead has enjoyed loan spells at Brentford, Birmingham, Granada, and more recently Rangers, in a bid to gain much-needed first team experience.
And recent reports suggest that Derby could be the next side to give him the chance of first team action, and it’s news which has stimulated quite the response from Rams supporters on Twitter.
And it’s fair to say that most are keen on the idea of landing the young midfielder this summer…
Jon Toral. Don’t remember him ever playing on the wing. Wondering where that signing would leave Vydra. Interesting one though. #dcfc

Jon Toral. Very good technically. Can play across the front 3, preferably in the ‘hole’, in a 4-2-3-1. Good link up play too. #dcfcfans

Let’s face it toral is just a cheap option. Lawrence is who is needed, complete opposite of tortoise toral. #dcfc
