Bolton Wanderers midfielder Kieran Lee has hailed the Hillsborough faithful for the positive reception he received in Saturday's game, which has been well received by many Sheffield Wednesday fans.

The 33-year-old spent eight years with the Owls until leaving the Yorkshire club to join Bolton last summer, making more than 200 appearances during his tenure.

Lee was back at Hillsborough on the weekend with his new side but the Trotters left with nothing as Lee Gregory's second-half goal meant Darren Moore's team took all three points.

Speaking to the Sheffield Star, the former Wednesday midfielder suggested hailed the reception he received from his former club's fanbase and claimed he'd loved being back at the stadium despite the result.

He said: "The reception was obviously brilliant. I’ve enjoyed being back but obviously, at the end of it, I’m gutted because we came here to get the win really.

“It was nice being able to come back and say goodbye to the fans.

“I’ve enjoyed seeing everyone. I’ve seen a lot of the kids that I used to see coming here, which was nice for them and for me. I’ve loved coming back it was just a shame about the result.”

“When I was here they appreciated that I’d always come to every game with everything I’ve got. I always had a good relationship with them here anyway so I wouldn’t say I’m surprised.

“It was a nice moment but like I keep saying, it is a shame we lost.”

Lee had become more of a bit-part player in his final few seasons with Wednesday but even so, the industry and determination he showed every time he pulled on the shirt meant he left as a popular figure.

It seems Owls supporters were impressed by his post-match comments as well, with many taking to Twitter to voice their thoughts...
