Leicester City coach Kolo Toure is reportedly set to be announced as Wigan Athletic's new manager this weekend.

That's according to Sky Sports, who have claimed that the former Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool and Celtic defender impressed club chiefs in discussions between the two parties.

The Championship made a bold call in sacking Leam Richardson and it seems they've now landed on a leftfield replacement.

FLW's Wigan fan pundit Adam Pendlebury is not convinced that Toure is the right person to take the Latics job.

"Very odd one, for me," he said when pressed about the recent reports.

"I would not have seen that one coming. Can't see any connection at all.

"He's had some coaching experience obviously at Leicester. I don't think he's had any direct managerial experience even as a caretaker or taking the U23s or anything like that as far as I'm aware.

"Doesn't seem to fit the profile if you look at the way that Leicester play in comparison to the players that Wigan have got.

"Seems a really odd one to me."

However, Adam does believe that hiring Toure could give them an advantage in the African market given his experience as a player and coach for Ivory Coast.

He explained: "The only thing I can think of would be that it would maybe give us a step ahead in the African market potentially to maybe get some younger players but obviously you're always going to have issues there with things like work permits, it's not as easy as just bringing the players in.

"We're obviously not going to get the first pick of the best African players.

"It's not for me at all. I didn't see it coming. It doesn't seem to hit the criteria that you would expect for a Championship team that are currently in the relegation zone.

"You'd like to think there would be a bit of experience with dealing with a situation like that.

"That's why my preference was a Neil Critchley really because he had that season in the Championship and he got Blackpool promoted from League One."

Toure may not be the candidate that Adam was hoping for but he will still give the 41-year-old his full support if he is appointed.

He said: "It would be disappointing for me but like every Wigan manager, If he's sat in the dugout you give him every chance right from the very start and back him all the way.

"At the moment, I think there are better candidates."

If Toure is appointed this weekend then his first competitive game in charge will be away at Millwall on the 10th of December.
