Phillip Cocu got off to a winning start in pre-season as Derby manager as he watched his side beat American outfit Sarasota Metropolis 2-0 last night.

Whilst the opposition weren't up too much, it will still have been a useful run out for the players as they look to impress the new boss.

And, one man who appeared to take his opportunity with both hands was 30-year-old striker Chris Martin.

The Rams target man has been frozen out for the past few years, with various different managers at Pride Park sending him out on loan, with Martin enduring a tough spell with Hull in the previous campaign, where he managed just two goals.

However, he impressed back in a Derby shirt last night, with his link up play with Jack Marriott particularly promising, with the ex-Peterborough man scoring twice thanks to his strike partner.

The duo had a great understanding and were a constant threat throughout and it's fair to say fans of the east Midlands side liked what they saw.

Here's some of the reaction to Martin's performance from Twitter...
