Middlesbrough were one of a number of clubs to express an interest in signing young Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke on loan, according to the London Evening Standard.

Aston Villa, Rangers, Huddersfield Town and Lyon were the other clubs in the frame but the player ultimately decided to stay at Anfield.

But would Solanke have been a good fit at Middlesbrough?

We discuss.....

Jay Taylor

Dominic Solanke’s physical presence would have been well suited for Middlesbrough.

The tall, strong, powerful attacker would have been a good signing - albeit if he resembles Ashley Fletcher, he is a better version of him.

He plays frequently enough for Liverpool so this would have been a big coup by Tony Pulis to pull of this signing.

Gary Hutchinson

He could have done a job for Boro, whether he would have fitted perfectly is another question.

They like one striker, one focal point but I’m not sure Pulis knows what type of player he wants there.

Then again, class always shines through and there’s no reason why Solanke wouldn’t have bagged 20 in the Championship.

George Harbey

Solanke would have been a perfect fit - absolutely.

At 6-foot-2, Solanke offers a different dimension to an attacking line and could have formed a magnificent ‘big and small’ partnership with either Assombalonga or Braithwaite.
