Nottingham Forest are the latest Championship club to declare their interest in the Burnley striker Nahki Wells, according to Sky Sports News reporter Lyall Thomas on Twitter, with Forest keen on a permanent deal for the 29-year-old, who is presently on loan at QPR.

Wells has scored 13 goals in 26 appearances this season at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium, but will be recalled by Burnley if they find an appropriate buyer during this transfer window.

Would he be a good signing for Forest?

We discuss.........

Chris Gallagher

"This would be the perfect signing for Nottingham Forest.

"He is a proven player at this level and has won promotion before, so there's nothing really negative you could say if they managed to secure this deal.

"Finding competition for Lewis Grabban is a priority for Lamouchi and Wells would also be able to play off the main striker in a 4-2-3-1.

"So, he seems to tick every box and whilst the reported £5-6m fee might seem a lot for a 29-year-old who is effectively entering the final 18 months of his deal, it will look a steal if he is the man to fire them to promotion. And, having Wells and Grabban up top seriously enhances the chances of that happening."

Chris Thorpe

"A very good signing for Forest if they can pull it off, although it will be intriguing to see where he would fit in under Lamouchi, particularly given the form of Lewis Grabban.

"He would definitely add a lot to their team as they seek to gain a real foothold in the play-off race, with Wells offering the pace to get in behind as opposed to Grabban who prefers more balls to feet.

"The addition of Wells would in theory open up the possibility of Forest starting with a front two in games, which is something that we have rarely seen from the City Ground outfit this season.

"The battle for the striker's signature is bound to rumble on up until the last knockings of the window and for that reason Forest will have to move fast if they are to secure his services."

Luke Phelps

“Forest and Bristol City now look set to fight it out for the Bermudan. He’s on-loan at QPR from Burnley but Sean Dyche is understood to be keen on off-loading the forward this window but only if their transfer fee is met, which is said to be £5 million - the fee they paid Huddersfield for him in 2017.

“He would be a good signing, but at 29-years-old, how long do Forest realistically expect to get out of him? He’s out-of-contract in the summer, by which time he’ll be 30-years-old - can Forest afford to pay £5 million for a player like that?

“With 13 goals in 26 Championship games this season, he’s definitely finding his best form again. He’s been prolific under Mark Warburton, and he’d be an asset to any Championship team, especially one chasing promotion to the Premier League - a feat he achieved with Huddersfield Town in 2017.

“Goals are always needed, but would he get in the side? Forest have been pretty reliant on Lewis Grabban this season and after him, they’ve not got an out-and-out, recognised Championship goal-scorer. Wells would certainly get game-time at Forest, arguably more than he would if he went to Bristol City.”
