Middlesbrough are in the chase to sign West Brom winger Kamil Grosicki in the January transfer window, according to the print edition of The Sunday Mirror (1/11/20, Page 65).

Nottingham Forest almost secured a deal to sign the 32-year-old in the summer, only for the paperwork not to be submitted on time on deadline deal meaning the potential transfer collapsed.

So, from a Boro perspective, would Grosicki be a good addition for Neil Warnock's side? Is he needed?

I can see this being a good signing for Boro to be honest.

I think Grosicki has proven that he can be a quality player at this level. He was a standout performer for a Hull side that struggled under Nigel Adkins, scoring so many goals and creating so many chances.

Things haven’t worked out for him at West Brom, and if he continues to be overlooked by Slaven Bilic, then I can definitely see him moving away in January.

I’ve always thought that Boro have lacked that sheer pace and power in midfield since Adama Traore left the club, but Grosicki is a rapid, direct winger who can cause the opposition some real problems in the final third.

If they can beat Forest to his signature, then it would be some coup and a big statement of intent.

This would be a very good signing for Boro.

They have had an excellent start and the squad looks good but they could do with one more attacking option, which is why they tried to sign Yannick Bolasie.

So, Grosicki would be a very smart capture. He can play down both flanks, he has proven himself at this level and he should be available. There are no real downsides to this, although the obvious issue is that you would expect competition for his signature.

But, Boro must do all they can to win the race for the Polish international.

For me, Grosicki gets into a large proportion of Championship sides and you can see why Boro are keen on a potential deal here.

The Polish winger has that element of quality and has the ability to change a game on his own, when he's fully match fit and on song.

Of course, Grosicki has not played a lot of football over the last few months and is unlikely to feature heavily in Bilic's West Brom side so he'd need to be afforded patience and time to get fully up to speed.

He'd offer Boro another dimension in the final third, and would supplement Patrick Roberts in-terms of creativity.
