Jamie Paterson’s sensational form for Swansea City under Russell Martin has seen him gain admirers – including West Bromwich Albion.

That’s according to the Daily Mail, who believe that the Baggies are one of a number of Championship clubs tracking the 29-year-old ahead of the January transfer window.

After a spell in pre-season at Middlesbrough, Paterson joined Swansea in August and has scored eight goals and racked up four assists in 20 matches for the Welsh side, including one of each against Albion earlier in the season.

What club does Ben Foster play for now?

Valerien Ismael is seemingly itching to add more quality and creativity to his side for the second half of the season as his side have lost grip on the top two teams in the league, but would Paterson be the right fit? The FLW team have had their say…

He’d be a fantastic signing, there’s no doubt about that, but I’m not sure he’s needed.

West Brom already have a wealth of attacking options at their disposal, so I’m not sure where Paterson would fit into their side.

He has largely played as a shadow striker behind Joel Piroe for the Swans but I think the Baggies would be more likely to use him wide on the left.

At the age of 29 as well he isn’t exactly a long term signing that can improve and I’m not entirely convinced that he’s any better than the players that they have.

It would be a smart signing but not one that’s necessary.

This could be an ideal signing for West Brom to make in January and it does leave you questioning what on earth Bristol City were thinking of when they allowed him to leave Ashton Gate on a free transfer in the summer.

The attacker has flourished at Swansea City and he has been able to showcase his best qualities under Russell Martin on a consistent basis.

However, West Brom would still be a big potential draw for Paterson given their league position and it might be possible for the Baggies to convince him to come in and help aid their promotion push.

Paterson in his current form would be a major addition to West Brom’s squad with goals having been an issue for them over the last few weeks, especially away from home at times.

As a result, he would be a great signing for them to make in the winter window.

Swansea are not going to allow him to leave on the cheap though, so West Brom might decide that it is not worth investing a sizeable fee in a player that was only a free-agent back in the summer.

It would be an excellent short-term signing to bolster their promotion chances, but they really should have been eyeing this type of move up in the summer when he was available for nothing.

I can see the logic behind this one.

Paterson is in great form for Swansea City with eight league goals and four league assists so far in the Sky Bet Championship, making him one of the more productive attackers in the league.

That might dictate, then, that around the better players on paper as West Brom possess he might produce even higher numbers and so in that sense, of course, he would be a very good signing.

Paterson might want to think carefully about ending things with Swansea too soon, though, as he is enjoying a great time there and could only get better under Russell Martin, so he needs to weigh up what is best for his career.

On first impressions, though, it could be a good signing for Albion.
