Charlton Athletic boss Lee Bowyer has emerged as a contender to become the new manager of Championship side Queens Park Rangers.

Reports from the Evening Standard have surfaced, claiming that the former Leeds and Newcastle midfielder has emerged as a target for the R's, who parted company with Steve McClaren on Monday after a dismal run of form.

Bowyer took the reins of Charlton from Karl Robinson last season, initially on a caretaker basis as he guided the Addicks to the League One play-off semi-finals. Their place in the top six is all but confirmed again this year, with the club sitting 12 points clear of 7th spot.

It is understood that Bowyer's ability to work under a tight budget is very attractive to the QPR board, with their financial position in limbo after being hit by a transfer embargo at the start of the season.

Here, we discuss this managerial development...

George Harbey

"This would be an excellent appointment for QPR.

"Bowyer is proving to be a very talented, young manager, who wears his heart on his sleeve and shows real passion on the touchline.

"He has worked under tough ownership before, and is the perfect fit at Loftus Road for sure."

George Brooks

"Bowyer is a building a reputation as a talented manager and has done well for Charlton this season. QPR will be impressed with what he has been able to achieve at The Valley, building a promotion challenge on a limited budget.

"It's still his first job in management and it remains to be seen if he can make the step up to the Championship, but he could be a good option for the Rs.

"He is out of contract in the summer and is yet to be offered a new deal, so this could be a good time for QPR to get their man."

Toby Wilding

"This would be a risk, given Bowyer’s relative inexperience in the dugout at any level, let alone the Championship, but it could be a risk worth taking.”

"He has done well in difficult circumstances at Charlton since stepping into the hot seat, and could have them in an even better position had issues such as transfers gone his way. If QPR were to offer him that he could be tempted, and he could do well for them."
