Norwich City are reportedly interested in signing Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall.

The 22-year-old spent last season out on loan at Rangers but has been integral since returning to the City Ground–starting every single Championship games for the Reds this season.

Due to injuries, the centre-back has had a string of partners but has helped Forest concede just 25 goals in the league–the third-fewest of any side in the division.

His performances appear to have caught the eye of some Premier League clubs as The Mirror (8th January, page 50) has reported that Norwich and West Ham are interested in the defender.

It seems Forest may have a job on their hands keeping Worrall this season, with Sheffield United and Arsenal also understood to be keen on a move.

But would Worrall be a good signing for Norwich, would he start for the Canaries, and how much of a blow would it be for Sabri Lamouchi's side?

"Worrall looks like a Championship player who is ready to make the step-up to the Premier League. He’s shown this season that he’s one of the standout defenders in the league, let alone for Forest, having played in all of their games this season.

“He’s definitely good enough to make the move, but I’d ask if Norwich are really the right club to move to? They look all but destined for the Championship next season anyway, but Forest have a really good chance of achieving the unexpected this season and being promoted.

“It would be a huge blow for Forest if he left, especially at this stage of the season. They have plenty of players in that position but none can lead the line like Worrall, and all that at 23-years-old. He plays like a weathered pro and he’s set for a big future in the game.

“To achieve that future though he needs to make the right choices. The lure of Premier League football with Norwich for at least the second half of this season is tempting, but is it more tempting than the probability of top flight football next season with Forest?”

"I think he’s more than good enough to make the step up to the Premier League.

“Worrall has shown that he can cut it at a high level with Rangers earlier in his career and it’s good to see him doing well with Forest.

“He’s been a key member of the Reds’ squad this term, aiding Lamouchi’s side's challenge for promotion back into the Premier League.

“Norwich are surely going to have to pay a considerable amount to sign Worrall though, as Forest won’t want to sell him on the cheap.

“Only time will tell if he’s good enough for the top flight, but I think he’d be an upgrade on the likes of Grant Hanley in the Norwich defence.”

Ethan van Ristell

"The 23-year-old would be a very good signing for Norwich, with the central defender proving to be one of the in-form players in the Championship for Sabri Lamouchi's side this season.

"Question marks will remain about how Worrall will adapt to the rigours of a Premier League relegation battle, but he has great potential and is likely to develop his game further if he completes a move to Carrow Road.

"A deal may prove to be difficult for the Canaries, with Lamouchi making it clear that the defender is not for sale under any circumstances.

"Forest concede an average of a goal per game and Worrall's presence at the back has played a huge part towards that. The centre-back's City Ground departure would be a massive blow to Forest's promotion ambitions."
