Rangers are said to be weighing up a move for Norwich City midfielder Kenny McLean according to the Scottish Sun.

McLean has made eight appearances for the Canaries this season, and has played his part in their strong start to this year's campaign in the Championship.

Daniel Farke's side are currently sat third in the second-tier standings after their opening 11 matches of the 2020/21 season, and will be eager to make a swift return to the Premier League following their relegation from the top-flight last term.

It is claimed that Rangers are looking at a deal paid in instalments or a potential loan deal for the McLean, who joined the club back in 2018 from Aberdeen.

The Gers are sat top of the Scottish top-flight, and will fancy their chances of denying arch rivals Celtic another league title this season after such a strong start to the season.

But would McLean be a good signing for Steven Gerrard's side in the January transfer window?

We discuss....

George Harbey:

This seems like a typical Rangers signing, and I think McLean would be a decent addition for Steven Gerrard's side.

I am a fan of McLean. He was an unsung hero in their promotion-winning season in 2018/19, scoring three goals and registering seven assists from midfield, and you'd back him to be a key player if he was to make the move to Ibrox.

McLean is a tenacious, creative midfielder who can play slightly deeper or further forward if needs be, and I think that's someone Rangers could do with as they look to win the SPFL title.

He's only made four starts for the Canaries this season, though, so you could see him leaving Carrow Road in January if the opportunity to join Rangers came around.

It would be a move which suits both parties.

Jake Sanders:

This would be a terrific signing for Rangers.

McLean has already shown his capabilities at Premier League level and he's got more than enough ability to become one of the best players in the Scottish Premiership.

Despite the criticism that the Scottish league gets, a move to one of Europe's biggest club's - with the added bonus of Europa League football - would definitely be a move in the right direction for McLean.

You have to imagine that McLean will be tempted by a move to Ibrox in January.

Ned Holmes:

Yes, I think this could be a shrewd bit of business from Rangers but it might not be cheap.

McLean was excellent for Norwich in their promotion campaign two years ago and certainly showed glimpses of his quality in the Premier League last term.

With a side like Rangers, who dominate most of their games in the SPFL, he could flourish and with that in mind the signing would make a lot of sense.

You feel McLean may be keen on the move as well with Gers flying this season and his place in the Norwich side far from assured right now.

He'll want to be playing regularly to challenge for a place in the Scotland side for next summer's tournament and it seems Steven Gerrard may be able to offer him that.

The issue the Ibrox outfit may face is that reports earlier this year indicated that Norwich value him at around £10 million, so it won't be a cheap deal.
