Huddersfield Town are considering a move for Aberdeen defender Scott McKenna this January in order to help improve their Championship survival bid, according to MailOnline.

It is being reported that Huddersfield are competing with the likes of Burnley, Bristol City and Blackburn for his signature, but there remain doubts over whether the Terriers will be able to meet Aberdeen's valuation of the player.

McKenna has attracted interest from a number of English sides as a result of his solid performances in the Scottish Premiership, with the defender making a total of 24 appearances for a fourth-placed Aberdeen side this campaign.

It now appears as though the 23-year-old has been pinpointed as a potential transfer target by Danny Cowley, with the Terriers boss looking to improve his side's defensive fortunes after shipping 42 league goals so far this term.

McKenna reportedly asked to leave Aberdeen at the end of last season with the likes of QPR and Aston Villa keen on him, but the Scottish club were reluctant to sell a player they valued around £6million at the time.

Here, we discuss whether McKenna would be a good addition at the John Smith's Stadium...

George Dagless

"Let's wait and see shall we.

"McKenna's name gets linked with a whole host of lower Premier League and Championship names every window and so far he's not stepped foot outside of Pittodrie.

"Aberdeen are obviously open to letting him go but only for the right fee and they are maintaining a significant asking price before letting the towering defender go.

"Whether or not Huddersfield can go for that remains to be seen with their parachute money but if they can get him, yes, he could be a good signing.

"He's powerful in the air and reads the game well and has international experience but, as I say, this story gets batted about every window, one club has to actually take the plunge before we get excited."

Jacob Potter

“I think this would be somewhat of a coup for Danny Cowley’s side if they can pull it off.

"McKenna is an in-demand defender, and has previously had a number of clubs eyeing a move for him.

“With the likes of Burnley and Blackburn also interested in landing his signature, Huddersfield face a real battle to win the race to sign him.

“With Tommy Elphick currently sidelined through injury though, out of all of the clubs interested, the Terriers could probably offer him regular game time in the starting XI.

“Huddersfield have been poor for the majority of this year’s campaign to date, and I think that McKenna would certainly add some much-needed quality to their defensive line.

“Huddersfield need to match Aberdeen’s asking price for him, as he’s got the quality to turn their poor run of results around with strong performances at the back for Cowley’s men.”

George Harbey

"I think that it would be a superb coup if Huddersfield Town were to lure McKenna to the John Smith's Stadium given the calibre of clubs that are interested in him.

"He has captained Scotland on more than one occasion and is a natural leader who could add some real stability to a Terriers defence that has been leaky this term.
"Danny Cowley's side have shipped 42 goals this season and aren't clear of safety just yet, so the addition of McKenna could be a massive boost for them in the second half of the season.
"It would be a big statement of intent given that promotion chasing Nottingham Forest were interested not so long ago."
