‘Would be a superb addition’ – Brentford linked with impressive operator: Opinion

Brentford are interested in a move for Liverpool midfielder Herbie Kane, a report from Goal has claimed.

Kane enjoyed an impressive spell on loan in with Doncaster Rovers last season, scoring seven goals and providing nine assists in 49 appearances in all competitions for the League One side, helping them to reach the play-offs, where they were beaten at the semi final stage by eventual promotion winners Charlton Athletic.

The 20-year-old’s performances now appear to have caught the attention of a number of Championship sides, with both Brentford and Millwall reportedly making enquiries about the midfielder’s availability.

Having only signed a new contract with Liverpool around the turn of the year, it is likely that any move for Kane would be another loan one.

But would Kane be a good signing for Brentford?

We put that question to some of our Football League World writers.

George Brooks

“This could be a very good signing for Brentford.

“Kane is clearly a player with a lot of potential and he was very impressive while on loan at Doncaster in League One last season.

“He deserves a chance to prove himself in the Championship and another loan move would be the best thing for his development, as he isn’t going to a get a chance for Liverpool next season.”

Toby Wilding

“This would be a smart move from Brentford.

“It already appears that a number of their key midfielders and attackers are going to be attracting interest from top tier sides in the summer, so they may need to find new outlets for themselves going forward.

“In his first season in senior football with Doncaster, Kane has already shown that he can be just that kind of player for a Championship side such as Brentford.”

George Harbey

“Kane would be a superb addition for Brentford.

“He’s a very technical midfielder who scored and assisted plenty of goals last season, and he’d suit their style of play to a tee.

“It would be a real coup if the Bees were to sign him, given the season he had last time around.”
