Bristol City are reported to be eyeing up a move for Peterborough United striker Ivan Toney, according to a report on BristolLive, a player who has scored 15 goals and made three assists in 24 appearances for the Posh this season.

The Robins are currently sitting in ninth place in the Championship table and and will be looking to the goals from a player like Toney to fire them into the play-off contention, as we enter the business end of the season.

So would Toney be a good signing for City, is he needed and would he make the starting XI?

We discuss……….

Alfie Burns

“Lee Johnson is desperate for a striker this month and he looks like he will search every avenue to find one.

“And, in Toney, you’ve got a player with 20 goal involvements who is ripping it up in League One.

“A lot of Championship clubs would love to take a gamble on the 23-year-old stepping up, and given the Robins’ need for a striker, he fits the bill.

“Whether he’s got enough about him to get Johnson’s play-off push firmly on track, I don’t know. But given his form, it is surely worth a pop.”

“Toney would be a solid signing for many clubs in the Championship and especially Bristol City who need a striker to come in this month.

“Having lost Benik Afobe early in the season to injury, the Robins have lacked an out and out goalscorer up front, and this has massively hindered their push for the play-offs.

“While nine apiece from Andreas Weimann and Famara Diedhiou is a solid return, TOney has almost double that in the league below with 17 for Peterborough, so he’s a clear goalscorer regardless of the division drop.

“With the inconsistency shown in Bristol’s attack, Toney would definitely get enough time to show his worth to Lee Johnson and could hit the ground running in a very fluid attack with a lot of service from both central and wide areas.”

Jacob Potter

“I think this is exactly the type of player that Bristol City need to be targeting in this month’s transfer window.

“The Robins need a striker that is going to fire them into the top-six this season, and Toney could be that player.

“He’s been in excellent form this season for Peterborough United in League One, scoring 17 goals in total this term.

“Bristol City will still be frustrated that they’ve missed out on Eddie Nketiah this month, so they could definitely benefit from signing a striker before the January transfer window closes.

“It’s already been stated that Bristol City aren’t to be put off by Peterborough’s hefty valuation of the striker, but you have to pay extra for a proven goalscorer, and Toney is certainly that.

“The fee they could potentially be paying would seem like a bargain if he was the player to fire them them into the Premier League this season.”
