Bolton Wanderers are reportedly interested in signing Swindon Town striker Eoin Doyle according to journalist Alan Nixon.

It is claimed that the Trotters have submitted an offer for the Irishman, who has caught the eye with a number of impressive performances for the Robins.

Doyle scored 26 goals in all competitions for Swindon, as they won promotion into League One after the majority of clubs agreed to curtail this year's campaign on a PPG (points per game) basis.

Bolton will be preparing for life in the fourth tier of English football after a season to forget both on and off the pitch saw them relegated from League One under the management of Keith Hill.

Ian Evatt has since taken charge of the club, and will be looking to win promotion back into the third tier at the first time of asking.

But would Doyle be a good signing for Bolton ahead of next year's campaign in League Two?

We discuss....

Sam Rourke:

Would be a sensational signing.

Doyle is still mulling over a new contract deal at Swindon Town, and there is every chance he could become a free-agent.

If that is the case, I imagine Bolton will not be alone as clubs clamour for the signature of a player who scored a whopping 25 league goals this term.

Doyle is a proven goalscorer in League Two, and when utilised in the right system, there is no better striker to have in your squad so it's clear to see why Ian Evatt's side hold an interest him.

In truth, I'd be surprised if he didn't stay at Swindon with Richie Wellens really striking a tune with Doyle and getting the best out of the player.

Alfie Burns:

It’s a chance for Bolton to rebuild this summer and this would be a great place to start.

Doyle is a top, top striker at this level and his goalscoring form last season was outstanding. He bagged so many goals and would be an asset to anyone in the fourth-tier.

Evatt’s job is going to be greater than just sourcing a goalscorer and he needs to tighten up the defence and add some quality in midfield. However, a top striker will be needed.

Simply, it could be the difference between Bolton bouncing back or sinking further.

Ned Holmes:

This would be fantastic signing for Bolton and an excellent way to start their rebuilding process.

With Ian Evatt now at the helm, the next few months are going to be vital for the Trotters as they look to give their new manager the tools he needs to secure promotion next term.

Signing Doyle would be doing just that. The 32-year-old is coming off a phenomenal season on loan at Swindon Town and clearly knows where the goal is in League Two.

He grabbed 26 goals and five assists in his 34 appearances last term and has 39 in the division in total.

This would be a really smart bit of business from the Trotters and the perfect way to back up the appointment of Evatt.
