Coventry City midfielder Zain Westbrooke is wanted by a host of clubs including West Bromwich Albion, according to TEAMtalk.

The 23-year-old has been a key player for the Sky Blues this season, scoring four goals and producing two assists in a total of 24 appearances for Mark Robins' side.

City sit one point off the automatic promotion places with a game in hand, with Westbrooke playing an influential role in their bid for automatic promotion from League One.

But his performances seemingly haven't gone unnoticed, with West Brom joining Nottingham Forest, Derby County and Bristol City in the race to sign the dynamic midfielder.

West Brom look set to make a long-awaited return to the Premier League this season, however it seems that Slaven Bilic is keen to add long-term quality to his squad.

Here, then, we discuss whether Westbrooke would be a good addition for the Baggies...

Chris Gallagher

"This would be a pretty pointless signing for the Baggies.

"Romaine Sawyers and Jake Livermore are the first two options in the midfield and that's not going to chance between now and the end of the season.

"Behind those pair, Chris Brunt and Gareth Barry provide experience, Rekeem Harper offers energy and Filip Krovinovic is another option. So, it's hard to see where Westbrooke fits into this squad.

"Plus, Albion are in a fantastic position to win promotion to the Premier League and they should be identifying players who can thrive in the top-flight and the Coventry man is unproven at Championship level.

"Therefore, this is a signing that would make little sense right now for West Brom."

Jordan Rushworth

"Westbrooke is certainly a player showing real potential so far this season with his performances at Coventry, having really established himself as a key player for Mark Robins’ side, with his ability to get forwards in support of attacks and build the play crucial to the Sky Blues’ system.

"It is understandable then that West Brom are interested in the midfielder, and Westbrooke would provide Slaven Bilic with another technically gifted option to play at the base of midfield during the second half of the campaign.

"However, given the consistent form shown by both Jake Livermore and Romaine Sawyers so far this term, Westbrooke would face a real challenge to force his way into the starting line-up and would likely have to settle for a place on the bench initially were he to arrive this month.

"West Brom, though, have struggled to play with their usual rhythm at times this season when Bilic has made changes to the midfield, which suggests that Westbrooke could be an ideal player to bring in and provide some quality back up when they make changes."

Josh Cole

"Although there is no doubting Westbrooke’s raw talent, the Baggies ought to hold fire on a move for the Coventry midfielder this month.

"Yet to prove himself at Championship level during his fledgling career, there is no guarantee that he will be able to replicate the performances which have allowed him to thrive under the guidance of Sky Blues manager Mark Robins.

"Furthermore, when you consider that West Brom currently have the likes of Romaine Sawyers, Jake Livermore and Gareth Barry at their disposal, Westbrooke may struggle to make any inroads on the club’s starting eleven.

"Therefore, Baggies boss Slaven Bilic may find it beneficial to steer clear of signing the 23-year-old until he is certain that he will be able to make a difference for the Baggies."

George Harbey

"Westbrooke has been excellent for Coventry this season, and he has really come up leaps and bounds since enduring loan spells at Leyton Orient and Solihull Moors in the last couple of years.

"He is a midfielder that is just as good at attacking and creating chances for his teammates, as he is at battling in midfield and breaking up play to help out in defence.

"But although he looks like the perfect box-to-box midfileder, I don't think he is good enough to be playing week in, week out for a team like West Brom just yet. He's nowhere near as good as the likes of Romaine Sawyers and Jake Livermore.

"At his age, he needs to ensure that he's playing regularly, and at Coventry, he is at a club where he feels valued and is playing under a manager that gets the best out of him and believes in him.

"He's best off staying put."
