According to reports from The Sun (03/11, page 61), Birmingham City are interested in signing Burnley striker Nahki Wells in January.

The 29-year-old, who currently finds himself out on loan at Queens Park Rangers, has been in impressive form in front of goal for Mark Warburton's side so far this season.

But Blues have struggled for goals from their attacking areas since the departure of Che Adams to Southampton in the summer, and are reportedly eyeing a move for Wells in order to bolster their push for the play-offs.

Discussing this potential transfer move is FLW writer George Harbey in today's six-pointer...

How has Wells performed so far this season?

"Wells has been in excellent form for QPR thus far this term, scoring eight goals in a total of 15 appearances in all competitions.

"Seven of those strikes have come in the league, with another coming in the 3-3 draw against Bristol City in the Carabao Cup.

"He scored nine goals for them on loan last season and has a proven goalscorer at Championship level."

What's his current situation?

"Wells' contract at Burnley expires in the summer, and it's unlikely that the Clarets will offer him a new deal as he's clearly surplus to requirements at Turf Moor.

"He's failed to make a single start for Sean Dyche's men since arriving from Huddersfield Town in 2017, so his future at Burnley looks very uncertain indeed.

"Because of this, Burnley will be looking to sell Wells in January for a price of around £6m, though it is unlikely that QPR will be able to afford him, leaving the door open for Blues to pounce."

Why are Birmingham interested in signing him?

"Blues have made a positive start to the season and sit 12th in the league table after 15 games, but they are missing something up top.

"Their top scorer, Lukas Jutkiewicz, has only managed to score four goals in all competitions thus far, with Alvaro Gimenez finding the net just once this term.

"It was always going to be a tough ask to replace Che Adams after he left for Southampton in the summer, after he scored 22 goals for Blues last term.

"Wells, though, is a proven goalscorer at Championship level who has been in fine form this season, so a partnership of himself and Jutkiewicz could be lethal."

How big of a blow would it be for QPR to lose him?

"It would be a massive blow for QPR's promotion hopes if they are to lose Wells in January.

"He's their leading goalscorer at the moment with eight goals to his name, and he has looked excellent whenever he's started up top for them this season.

"Of course, they do have other players such as Jordan Hugill and Ebere Eze who can score goals in his absence, but to lose a player of his quality, particularly to a promotion rival, would be a big, blow for Mark Warburton's men."

Is £6m the right price for Wells?

"To be honest, I think that it's quite a high price for Wells given his current situation at Turf Moor.

"He's out-of-contract at the end of the season and is completely out-of-favour under Sean Dyche, though £6m seems a bit excessive for a player who only has months left on his contract.

"They should be looking to sell him for any fee possible rather than making a loss and losing him on a free transfer in January, so Blues should look to use his contract situation to full advantage in January."

Would this be a good signing for Birmingham?

"Wells would be an excellent signing for Blues, and it would be a massive coup if they were to acquire his services given the start he's made to the season.

"The big-man-little-man partnership of Jutkiewicz and Adams worked so well for Birmingham last term, and if Wells were to join, then they could recreate that partnership up top.

"He scores goals at this level, and he could be the addition that Blues need to make in order to bolster their push for the play-offs."
