Rangers are reportedly interested in signing Coventry City midfielder Gustavo Hamer, according to the Press Association.

Hamer - who joined Rangers from PEC Zwolle from £1.2million in the summer - has been a key player for Coventry this season.

The 23-year-old has scored four goals and registered two assists in 19 Championship appearances this season, and is now attracting interest from Rangers.

According to the Press Association, Rangers are keen on Hamer, as they look to bolster their midfield options for the future.

Here, we discuss this potential arrival at Ibrox...

Hamer would be an excellent addition to Steven Gerrard's ranks - but it all depends on the price.
With the Brazilian-born midfielder contracted to the Sky Blues for another two-and-a-half years, a significant fee could be demanded for the 23-year-old, who brings goals, energy and aggression to the midfield.
With Steven Davis now 36 years of age, more is needed in the Gers engine room to battle with Glen Kamara, Ryan Jack and Joe Aribo and Hamer would fit the box-to-box role.
If it all comes down to money though, then Preston's Daniel Johnson on a pre-contract arrangement may be much more cost-efficient to Rangers, although it's important to note that Johnson and Hamer are two completely different players - both though would be great additions.

This would be a fantastic signing for Rangers.
Hamer has really impressed me this season and been something of an unsung hero for the Sky Blues.
He's a dynamic midfielder and the sort of player that could pull up trees if he secured a move to the SPFL with Gers.
Steven Gerrard's side have turned a corner and look set to win the Scottish title this season and signing Hamer would help them both short-term and long-term.
He's a scrapper, which Gerrard will love, but offers real quality on the ball as well.

Quiz: Are these 15 Coventry City facts genuine or not?

It really doesn't surprise me to see Rangers, and Steven Gerrard in particular shopping in the lower leagues. Having signed Joe Aribo from Charlton, George Edmundson from Oldham and Greg Stewart from Birmingham City, three players that have all performed relatively well at Ibrox, Gerrard clearly sees the EFL as a decent gap in the market where he can get quality players for a reasonable fee. And you'd have to say that Hamer, whose impressed during his first season in English football definitely falls into that category. Hamer has already notched four times from midfield for the Sky Blues this season, and I don't see many reasons as to why he wouldn't be another shrewd addition for the Gers.
