Millwall have emerged as potential suitors for Ipswich Town goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski, The Daily Mirror (06/06,p57) have reported.
The East Anglian Daily Times have previously reported that three Championship clubs are interested in the goalkeeper following Ipswich’s relegation to League One this season.
Bialkowski has made 178 appearances for Ipswich since joining from Notts County in the summer of 2014, and has two years remaining on his contract at Portman Road. Millwall are in need of a goalkeeper with Jordan Archer’s release and the expiration of Ben Amos’ loan, followed by the sale of David Martin to West Ham meaning that Millwall are now without a senior goalkeeper on their books.
The same report from The Mirror also claims that The Lions’ Championship rivals Birmingham are also interested in the Pole.
So, would Bialkowski be a good signing for Millwall.
We asked some of our Football League World writers for their opinions.
“This would be a fantastic signing.
“Even though the Polish stopper has endured a very tough year or so, prior to that he was one of the better keepers in the Championship.
“Millwall desperately need a new number one as it’s been a problem position for a while now, so Bialkowski would be a major upgrade if he could get back to his previous level.”
“This is the sort of signing Millwall need.
“Not only do they need a goalkeeper, but getting one with Championship experience such as Bialkowski would be a huge boost for Neil Harris’ side.
“The fact he is fresh out of a relegation season could even be a good thing, as he will be ready for another fight for survival which Millwall may well be facing again next year.”
“This would be a good signing for Millwall to make.
“It hasn’t been an easy season to be an Ipswich player, but you can’t deny the talent that Bialkowski has.
“With an arm around him and a fresh start, he can still be a top Championship goalkeeper.”
